I HAD A BLACK DOG, HIS NAME WAS DEPRESSION

Via The World Health Organization (WHO), this short video offers an effective analogy for how it feels to live with depression. They say: “At its worst, depression can be a frightening, debilitating condition. Millions of people around the world live with depression. Many of these individuals and their families are afraid to talk about their struggles, and don’t know where to turn for help. However, depression is largely preventable and treatable. Recognising depression and seeking help is the first and most critical towards recovery.”

One in four women and one in six men will suffer from depression at least once in their life. Few are immune (WHO).

Often people who suffer from depression describe this illness as a black frame that obscures the view of the world and the future. Most often they tend to imagine negative future scenarios and have difficulty seeing positive scenarios. Moreover, they overestimate the likelihood that they expect a negative future and generate many reasons to believe that it is a correct estimate of the probability. The reasons for this difficulty to project themselves towards a positive future result from the inability to recall the positive aspects of the past.
